DEGREE REQUIRMENTS

Eligibility: Applicants will be1. A Master's Degree holder in any discipline or equivalent qualification, recognized by the Association of Indian Universities or by the All India Council for Technical Education, with a minimum of 55% marks. (Those appearing for the respective examinations may also apply, provided they complete these as well as all other requirements for the degree prior to June 30, 2004).Applicants for the Corporate Strategy and Policy specialization must have a minimum of two years' work experience in addition to a minimum of 55% marks in the Masters Degree.ORChartered Accountant with a minimum of 55% marks OR A First Class Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Technology with a minimum of two years' work experience.
2. In addition, all FPM applicants must also satisfy the eligibility criteria for the Common Admission Test.
3. NRIs and Foreign Applicants, who have taken the GMAT (including AWA scores) in 2003, are also eligible to apply.
WAIVERS: IIM PGDM holders who graduated in 1995 or later, with a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.75 out of a maximum of 4.0 (or equivalent) are exempted from appearing for the CAT and also from First Year coursework.
FINANCIAL SUPPORT: FPM students in good standing are provided with a fellowship grant for four years to cover tuition and other fees, hostel room rent and computer facilities. In addition, they will also receive a stipend of Rs 8,000 per month to cover boarding and other expenses, as also a contingency grant of Rs 15,000 per year.
No financial support is available for NRIs and Foreign Applicants, who are required to pay annual tuition fees of $8,000 for each of the first two years and $2,000 for each of the subsequent two years.

Scholarships for the disabled
The National Center for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People will award scholarships to meritorious disabled students to help them pursue postgraduate and doctoral courses.
It will award scholarships in subjects like medicine, surgery, engineering, architecture, management, business administration, social work, applied psychology, clinical psychology, etc.
The basic rate of scholarship will be Rs 1,000 per month and will only be awarded to deserving candidates with limited means.

HIGHER DOCTORATES

In some countries, especially the UK, Ireland and some Scandinavian, Commonwealth nations or former USSR countries, there is a higher tier of research doctorates, awarded on the basis of a formally submitted portfolio of published research of a very high standard. Examples include the Doctor of Science (DSc/ScD) and Doctor of Letters (DLitt/LittD) degrees found in the UK, Ireland and some Commonwealth countries, and the Danish doctorate (doktorgrad; e.g. dr.theol., doctor theologiæ, Latin for Doctor of Theology).

The German habilitation postdoctoral qualification is sometimes regarded as belonging to this category, even though, strictly speaking, the habilitation is not an academic degree, but rather a professional license to teach at a German university.

Higher doctorates are often also awarded honoris causa when a university wishes to formally recognize an individual's achievements and contributions to a particular field.

RESEARCH DOCTORATES

Research doctorates are awarded in recognition of both mastery of research methods (as evidenced in class grades and a comprehensive examination) and academic research that is ideally publishable in a peer-reviewed academic journal, but that will minimally be assessed by submission and defense of a thesis or disseertation. The best-known degree of this type is Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) award throughout the world, others inlcude the U.S degrees of Doctor of Engineering (DEng) and Doctor of Science (DSc or ScD), the UK Engineering Doctorate (EngD), and the German degree of Doctor rerum naturalium (Dr.rer.nat).

The minimum time required to earn a doctorate varies by country, and can be a short as three y ears (excluding bachelor's and master's studies). However, some candidates can take anywhere from 5 to 10 years to complete. The median number of years to completion of doctoral degrees for all fields inthe US is 7 years. Students are discouraged from taken unnecessraily long to graduate by having their financial support (ex:- stipends, research funds, etc) relinquished. Further more, doctoral applicants were previously required to have a master's degree, but many programs will now accept students straight out of undergraduate studies.

Before applying for PhD program, students in US have to complete a master's degree program. However, this is not compulsory in all cases, as many competent students get the opportunity to get PhD admission after bachelor's degree with exceptional coursework records. The duration of US doctoral degree varies from minimum period of three years to a maximum of six years.The duration of PhD degree course depends on field the students choose, ability of the students and complexity of the research work.
